Caution – Snakes

It’s great to be outdoors and enjoying nature, just remember that Stromlo Forest Park is also habitat for snakes and other wildlife.

Please be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on children.

If you come across a snake, though it might seem difficult, one of the most important things to do is remain calm. Stay still, don’t panic. Back away to a safe distance (if possible) or wait for the snake to move on.

If bitten, dial triple zero and apply a firm pressure with a bandage or other material over the bite and affected limb.

It is recommended that visitors download the EmergencyPlus App to their mobile device: https://emergencyapp.triplezero.gov.au/

Stromlo Forest Park also has three emergency phones located:

– at the southern end of the event pavilion viewing platform,
– by the junction of “Tall Trees”, “Rocky’s” and the start of the downhill tracks,
– on the western side of Mt Stromlo at the top of “Double Dissolution” and “Pipeline” trails.
